Introduction – Independent Living Units


•    Fronditha Care Inc. has established 20 Independent Living Units/housing located at 185 to 187 Furlong Rd St. Albans. The Units are targeted at elderly persons for whom public housing options are limited, unavailable or unsuitable.  They provide affordable accommodation in a pleasant environment. The Office of Housing (O.O.H) through the Community Housing Program provided funds for the Units.

•    There are 17 single bedroom and 3 two-bedroom units. Allocation of the units is at Fronditha’s discretion and all applicants must meet O.O.H. eligibility criteria for Public Housing.

•    All units are completely independent each with its own backyard, clothes line and laundry area.

•    The building of an additional 20 Independent Living Units is due for completion by the end of March 2008.
 

Eligibility criteria.

To be eligible for the Housing Service the following criteria must be satisfied:

•    Assets cannot be greater than the specified amount. (Subject to change – please check with the Housing Co-ordinator at the time of your enquiry).
•    Income must not exceed the standard aged pension amount per fortnight.
•    Australian citizenship.
•    Minimum age 58 years.
•    Victorian residency.

Frequently asked questions.

Who is responsible for the garden?
   
•    Fronditha will be responsible for maintenance of common garden areas. Tenants will be responsible for the garden within their own units.

Who is responsible for building maintenance?

•    Major maintenance will be the responsibility of Fronditha except when tenants have been responsible for any damage. Changing of light globes etc. is the tenant’s responsibility.

Who is responsible for payment of services?

•    Tenants are responsible for electricity, water, telephone and gas payments.
This also includes connection and disconnection fees.
 
Who pays for insurance?

•    Household insurance is the responsibility of the Tenant.

Are pets allowed?

•    Fronditha allows one only small pet e.g. bird, fish, or cat – no dogs etc. Tenants must comply with all regulations related to the care of animals.
